Be Red Cross Ready Instructors represent the American Red Cross in their community by teaching free preparedness education. The curriculum helps people understand, prepare for, and respond to disasters. Instructors aim to reduce perceived barriers to taking preparedness actions by focusing on a step-by-step approach that is manageable, action-oriented, and affordable. Topics covered by Be Red Cross Ready Instructors include an introductory module on emergency preparedness and additional modules about relevant local hazards: home fire, hurricane, earthquake, flood, tsunami, tornado, wildfire, extreme heat, thunderstorm, winter storm, volcano, and landslide.
Key Responsibilities:
Conducts standardized, high-quality Be Red Cross Ready presentations
Coordinates with the Be Red Cross Ready Program Leader to ensure adequate materials, equipment, and supplies are available to conduct presentations and returns them after use
Records all completed presentations using the Be Red Cross Ready Tracking Form. Then enters this information into the online Reach Form
Monitors presentation quality by having participants complete the Be Red Cross Ready Post Presentation - Participant Survey
Qualifications
Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies
Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups and individuals
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to read, understand, and review program guidelines and tools
Experience or comfort public speaking
Training
Become a certified presenter on the Be Red Cross Ready Program curriculum by completing required training and obtaining certification as a Be Red Cross Ready Presenter in the EDGE learning management system
